day 81 - amazing night

see more from tonight here

http://www.rachelschell.com/gallery/4437785_cAzsa#309107434_LQgpV

I want to know how I lived without this grad nd filter for so long. *sigh* All I had to do to this was a little curves (where before I would have to set up my tripod and take 5 shots, different exposures and then spend an hour or more in photoshop blending them together without making it look HDR ish).

I have a few more from tonight. The sky was really really amazing.

PS - this is down by my moms house where I took this photo. I finally got down here to see how much the river had flooded. They closed off her street (Upriver Drive) because the river had covered it at one point. Most of the Centennial Trail is dry now, but there were a couple of areas that were still flooded. We saw a guy a bicycle just keep on riding into the water. I told him the trail was pretty flooded and deep, but he kept going. A little while after that we saw him coming back our way and he was soaked up to his knees. He said farther up the current was too strong and water too deep for him to continue. LOL...

Day 91 - going underwater

well this is completely blurry, crappy and snapshot -ish, BUT I had to test my new waterproof camera. it's just a little old p&s (olympus stylus 770 sw), but I really wanted a camera I could take some underwater shots with and I sure as heck wasn't going to pay $5k for a heavy, bulky housing for my 5D. Anyway, it shouldn't look this crappy once I get outdoors in the sunshine with it. Can't wait!

Day 21 - Clear

Can you tell I've missed doing this? Hope you aren't tired of them yet. Not a very dramatic sky so I focused on the water and reflection for this. This location on the river is packed in the summer. People jump off the rocks into the water and hang out on the shore to swim and relax. I don't know how much I trust swimming in the river myself. :S

Day 12 - 4's a Crowd

For those of you with 3 or more kids, bless you! I just don't know if I could handle it. This is what O's room looked like after my two nieces spent the day with us. They were all really good though and they helped clean up when they were finished. Man, it was hard work though.

Oh, yes and gotta love the tiny bedrooms in old houses.

day 71 - camping day three

this is sooc. I can't explain to you how amazing this view was in person. I hope you don't get tired of me saying that!!

day three was fun. we hiked along the river and then back to our car. it wasn't a major hike, but it was perfect since we had so many people.

Day 4 - Melt Away

I woke up at 8:30 this morning, but I didn't open my eyes. I laid there listening to the sounds of the life in this house. My daughter who got up way too early quietly playing, the coffee grinder running, the sun getting ready to shine right on my face.

So I got up.

I snatched my half read book off my night stand and grabbed my soft blanket. Shuffling down the stairs to the refreshing smell of coffee brewing.

I spent most of the morning in somebody else's world. The world of my book. Only half returning when food, drink or attention was needed from my good little girl. Sometimes she's likes to listen to me read my books out loud. I don't think she understands all of it, but maybe the sound of my voice soothes her.

I finished that book. I closed the cover and looked up to find the sun dancing around my feet. For a couple of hours the book was still with me and I was not fully in my own life. The magical golden sunlight streaming in the window was just as dreamy.

For the first time in a long time it doesn't feel like my heart is covered in the cold snow. As the sun melts away at the snow outside so it melts away the snow that covered my heart this winter.

Take me away beautiful sun to that magical place called Summer.

Day 35 - Time

Some days my motto is "it's only a matter of time before I aquire everything I dream of", which is really not that much honestly. I want to live in the country, own my own broken down farmhouse that I can fix up myself however I want, grow my own food, listen to nature, explore, run. And then other days my motto becomes a little less positive "it's taking too much time to aquire my dreams, so I give up".

Today it's the latter, but tomorrow is a new day...
